Koutloumousi.

Five houndred meters from Karies,the capital of Athos.lying amongst walnut and chestnut woods,is the monastery of Koutloumousiou.
Its was founded in the 11th AD by Constantine,a member of the princely Seljuk family from Kutlumush and convert to Christianity.

The oldest monastery inMount Athos.It was founded by Athanasios Athonitis in the year 963 AD.It is called Megisti Lavra-Great because it is even larger than the other cloisters.It holds first place in the hierarchy os Athos.

Iviron monastery.


John of the Iberians,district pricipal odf the Iberian Meshia and titleholder of Byzantium,came here with a few followers and his son,at the end of the 1oth century AD,and founded this monastery which was later called,of the Iberians.
Here,some ten centuries earlier,according to local legend,the Virgin Mary rested,when the ship which was carrying her to the island of Cyprus sencountered rought sea.In one of the chapels is the historic and miraculous icon of the Panagia Portaitisa.
The view out to sea is breathtaking.Here the clear mountain breezes mingle with the salt-spayy of the ocean,and conspire to capture the soul of every visitor to this place.
